Millennium Turkish kebab – part of Sliema business workers weekly diet

I’m sure that the Millennium kebab, in the corner of the Forestalls building next to the Waterfront hotel, is not an unfamiliar place to anyone living or working in Sliema. Around lunch time the queue seldom is short. Like most Turkish kebab’s here in Malta you’ll find the normal selection of lamb and chicken kebab, beef and chicken shish, burgers etc- all for around a few Euros. “Hot sauce… sweet sauce, salad or chips?” :)

Well the Turkish kebab seems to be a part of the weekly diet of the nearby office workers (sometimes even mine). I would however like to pitch for ‘Straws’ as a both cheaper and healthier alternative!
I would avoid it during the hot summer months as I don’t trust the food being able to stay fresh in the displays. However, if it’s Turkish kebab on your menu today, go to the Millennium kebab in Sliema. To me it looks fresher and the staff is cool and friendly.

I have personally stopped eating there after two incidents.

1: Worker sneezes directly into his hand, then without washing his hands continues to prepare food. Then he goes on to, with the same hand, pick chicken meat straight from the rotating grill and putting it in his mouth. He finishes of this fresh session by dipping same hand into the salad buffé and reaches for some lettuce and puts in his mouth.

2: I found a 3 cm long hair in my food (my head is shaved). That was it for me and I will never buy anything from there again.

Still, if you don’t mind the hygiene… the lamb and shish kebab are absolutely great. Stay away from the chicken thighs though, as they are re-heated in the microwave for your atomic and dry pleasure.

What is this “Straw” you are talking about?

It like when you go to the butcher, I’ve never seen them wearing plastic gloves. Not even at Arkadia.

Straws is near the Armani store on prince of Wales – great place for a simple sandwich or a plate of pasta!

Straws is a nice place, good food for an cheap price.

The butcher down here is not like home, as what I have seen. Down here they don’t have the knowledge of the Safefood, how to storage their food cleen an healthy. But we can not compare our food in Norway or Sweden than down here.

  4. Emil Brikha says:

Call me judgmental but food in Sweden, Norway AND Malta is based on the same biological and chemical process as in any other parts of the world, in Malta even more.

So if there should be a country where they should have a great knowledge about bacteria and hygiene, it should be in a country where the average temperature of the year is 25 degrees.

I dont agree at all. Millenium Kebab is very healthy and fresh. everything is prepared on a daily basis, nothing comes ready from the can. all the staff knows hygiene. even in summer, unlike some posted before, all food stays fresh as they close the curtain to protect from the sun.
