Trattoria da Pippo – Best Italian food in Malta

Thursday, June 12th, 2008
Classic Italian dining in Valletta at this family runned trattoria. As I understand it this is the place to go if you a little bit better off, correct me If I’m wrong but this is my impression by looking over my shoulder. However nothing wrong with that.
There is no menu in Da Pippo because they select 5-6 main courses each morning based on what is freshly available.
In addition to the main courses, there are a variety of breads, local cheeses, salads, olives, cooked vegetables, potatoes and other hors d’oeuvres brought to each table. The wine list is ample and the owners will recommend local or imported wines to complement your meal, if requested.

Malta’s best cappuccino by Zoltan

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

After a good lunch I have always liked a good cappuccino. And here is my guide where you find the 3 best cups of cappuccino in Malta.

#1: Café Olé Spinola bay
Very fluffy skimmed milk, always perfect temperature and a lovely environment which makes the cup even more tasteful.

#2: 282 cafe in Valletta
Main street in Valletta. Pitoresk surroundings great coffee and good food.

#3: Casino Dragonara Malta
In the heard of ST Julians. This outsider serves perfect cappuccino with a taste of chocolate which in my opinion makes it in the top three.

So here you go my dear friends and readers, the guide to Malta’s best cappuccino.

Dinner in someone’s living room or at Lulu’s?

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

It sure feels like you are in someone’s living room when you are at the exclusive restaurant Lulu’s in St Julian’s Malta. Their interior sure feels like you’re at home, bookshelf’s with a mixture of classic Novels, Magazines and several cookery books, moreover they also have a very classic and stylish inner with bits and pieces that make you feel uncomplicated and at ease. Small thing that obviously increase the whole setting.

As Lulu’s this time was just a quick stop before I had to go to the casino to eke out my remuneration we just had a main course, or I should not say just since the dish I had was tremendous.

Anyway I tried the Lamb filets with a glace of rosemary herbs and honey mustard marinade, what made the dish even better that it was served with home made mashed potatoes (no not kiosk made , home made) along with roasted potatoes and mixed vegs.
The price for this tasty dish > €18,75, and according to the standards here in Malta it was worth every nickel.

So to summarize, tasty food is well presented and service is extremely friendly.

Step down bar, Sliema – The best German food in Malta

Friday, June 6th, 2008

I regularly visit the Step down bar in Sliema to spoil myself with the best German food in Malta.

This time was no exception either; the German Wiener snitzel is as always prepared to perfection and served with delicious roasted potatoes and bacon.

Next time you’re walking down the Prince of Wales to Balutta, step down to the step down bar and enjoy the friendly atmosphere!

Le Dauphin (The Dolphin) Malta – Mediterranean or Moroccan food?

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Situated on top of Ryan’s pub in Spinola bay Le Daphin enjoys magnificent views in a somewhat cozy atmosphere.

This plays probably enjoyed its best days a few years ago and would not suffer from a refurbishment. However the food is good, go for sea food here.

The menu mention that they have Moroccan food on request, it may be worth a try?

Staff is friendly and service is good! Why no give it a try yourself?

Parapett restaurant – If eye’s could taste the food and some thoughts about service.

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

If there is duck on the menu I want it. I not only love duck as food, I absolutely adore it. Having said this, my expectations on duck is obviously sky high.

I heard good things about Parapett, the service should be better than most other places in Malta… wait a second, that sentence would suggest that service in Maltese restaurants considered as poor? I often hear complaints about the service and that it should be a phenomenon only in Malta. Big time disagreement from Joakim! I’ve been around a lot, I’ve got good service and shit service, most often somewhere in between. And you know what, most often you are treated exactly the same way as you treat the staff. Do you meet and great them in a nice way, are you polite when your order, do you give them a smile?

Ok, you can say that they have a job to do and that they are paid to give you a service – but take my best advice and give an extra smile and you will also enjoy their best service (Don’t forget to tip accordingly).

…Back to Parapett.
1) Duck meat was overcooked and tasted old furniture’s, the rest of the dish tasted as good as it looked. Sadly not enough when the duck was bad.
2) Service was great!

Maybe the kitchen suffered from a bad day – Enjoy!
